Tamil Nadu Governor walks out of assembly amid standoff with government
The BJP defended the remarks by noting that Tamil literature has referred to the state's landmass as both Tamizhagam and Tamil Nadu.
As chief minister M. K. Stalin attempted to move a resolution on Monday, governor RN Ravi left the chamber before the playing of the national anthem, stating that only the traditional address the administration has prepared for the opening day of the House's winter session will be recorded.
When Ravi read out the prepared speech, Stalin stepped in when he omitted words like the Dravidian style of government.
Earlier, members of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)-led alliance that controls the government interrupted Ravi's speech after he suggested renaming the state and criticized the 50-year dominance of the Dravidian parties. Members of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi and the Congress raised slogans against Ravi.

Ravi and the state government have clashed over a number of topics, including his failure to pass 20 measures. Ravi has been charged with spreading the Hindutva ideology of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by the DMK and its allies.
The DMK sought Ravi's resignation if he plans to continue meddling in state politics after accusing him of doing so on Sunday.
Last week, Ravi criticized the administration for rejecting policies that are "appropriate for the entire country" and suggested renaming Tamil Nadu Tamizhagam. Regressive politics, he continued, had a "bad habit" of rejecting anything that might benefit all groups of people.
In retaliation, the DMK claimed that Ravi was seeking to create a story in order to rename the state.
