A transgender is harassed and hair cut forcibly, and two were arrested

In the Thoothukudi region of Tamil Nadu, two guys harassed and forcibly cut the hair of two transgender people. The Kalugumalai police have detained the two males, known as Yova Buban and Vijay, after a video of the event went viral online on Thursday.

One of the males in the video violently chops off one of the victims' hair.

Grace Banu, a transgender activist, posted the video on Twitter and urged the police to pursue charges against the two males in it. The two males were detained by the Kalugumalai police after the video became widely shared and the incident was reported to the authorities.

In accordance with sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and The Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights Act) of 2019, the accused have been charged with harassing, abusing, assaulting, and attempting to kill.

"We have identified the persons, including the victims in this video," said Tuticorin Superintendent of Police (SP) L Balaji Saravana. "We are taking legal action in this regard."
