There hasn't been much progress in preserving Bhupen Hazarika's work: AASU

On Saturday, the All Assam Students' Union (AASU) stated that more needs to be done to honour, preserve, and popularise Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika's valuable compositions and contributions. On the occasion of the music maestro's 11th death anniversary, AASU chief advisor Samujjal Bhattacharjya stated that they have been demanding that the works of Bhupen Hazarika be included in the academic curriculum from elementary to higher education, but the state government has yet to take any specific steps in this regard.

AASU has also demanded that chairs be named after Bhupen Hazarika in prominent universities across Assam and India, according to Bhattacharjya, who further stated that the Guwahati Railway Station be renamed after him. The AASU organised a memorial event in Guwahati in front of Bhupen Hazarika's statue. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated in a tweet: "Sudhakonto Bhupen Hazarika's music would live on in our veins forever. Bhupen Hazarika is loved by all Assamese." Several government and non-government organisations held memorial services around Assam to pay tribute to the music maestro.
