TMC leader and his son have been arrested by CBI for tampering with evidence and threatening the victim’s family members, the son was the main accused in the case of alleged gang rape of a minor girl (14 years old) and subsequent death of a girl in Bengal’s Hanskhali area. The TMC member was picked on Friday along with one of his friends who help him, describing the local leader as an “influential person who knew about his son’s wrongdoings”, the official speak about the development on Saturday.
“The TMC leader had threatened and intimidated the family members of the victim by sending his men to their home in Hanskhali (part of Nadia district). Our investigation found that he tried using his political contacts to ensure that the girl did not receive proper treatment when taken to hospital,” the CBI official said.
“The accused also threatened the victim’s family with dire consequences if they approached the police. He forced them to cremate the girl hastily,” the agency official added.
The crime took place when Panchayat member Samarendra Gayali’s son Gopal Gayali who is the main accused of this case, invited her on April 14 to the birthday party in Hanskhali village in West Bengal, Nadia district where they allegedly raped her by the son of a local TMC panchayat member with his group of friends. Braj Gopal was arrested a day after the victim’s family had filed a complaint.
So far, a total of eight persons have been arrested in the case along with the father of the main accused on supporting his son and tempering the evidence.
