On Thursday, Ukraine issued a nationwide air raid alert and senior officials claimed that air defense systems were shooting down approaching Russian missiles.
The governor of the Mykolaiv area, Vitaly Kim, said on the Telegram messaging app that two missiles had been detected above its territory.

"Within Ukraine's borders, missiles are being fired. two at least through the Mykolaiv region to the northwest "he stated.

The public was advised by officials to seek shelter.

The chief of the president's office, Andriy Yermak, declared that "the first Russian missiles have been shot down."
Since October, Russia has used missile and drone strikes to target vital infrastructure, resulting in widespread blackouts and other outages throughout the winter.
Due to a potential missile assault, DTEK, the largest private energy producer in Ukraine, declared emergency power outages in the provinces of Odesa and Dnipropetrovsk as well as the nation's capital, Kyiv.
