Himalayan Griffon Vultures Migrate to Demthring Village, Attracting Tourists and Receiving Protection from Wildlife Department

A flock of vultures is haphazardly traveling to Demthring village in the West Jaintia Hills area of Meghalaya; around two weeks ago, they were lodged at Mr. Kordor Pohshnem's residence, which is located close to the main Jowai-Dawki route.

Many travelers and tourists are drawn to the vulture and stop to take pictures. The Department of Wildlife claims that they immediately took protective measures after being alerted on 2 April 2023, sending a representative from their department there every day to protect against individuals who might abuse them.

The Divisional Forest Officer Wildlife Jowai Madam N.Laloo said they will continue to provide protection from their side until they migrate again . However, the researcher has not yet discovered the roots of where they came from. Immediately after being notified on 2 April 2023, the department of wildlife claims they initiated protective action.

These vultures are Himalayan Griffon Vultures, according to DFW's Jowai, and they used to move during this season from one location to another.
