The first Diwali celebration was hosted by US vice president Kamala Harris on Friday with members of the Indian-American community at her official residence, the Naval Observatory. The event featured a number of renowned Indian-Americans, including Neera Tanden, Vivek Murthy, Rich Verma, and Ajay Bhutoria.
In videos that were extensively circulated on social media, Kamala Harris could be seen lighting sparklers with her husband as they cheered and exchanged "Happy Diwali" greetings. While guests were offered a broad selection of traditional Indian foods, her home was brightly decked with lights and diyas.

We have witnessed a lot in recent years that has been driven by strong forces trying to create division by drawing attention to what they would have us believe are differences, even though we all understand that most of us share much more similarities than differences.
