“Why India is not stopping International Flights”? Arvind Kejriwal

Amid the announcement of a new Covid-19 version called Omicron, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday to prohibit international planes from landing in the national capital.

"Incoming aircraft from Omicron-affected countries have been halted in many countries." Why aren't we following in their footsteps? We took time to suspend international flights in the first wave as well," Kejriwal stated in a tweet, adding that the majority of foreign planes arrive in Delhi, which is the most affected state.

"Pls stop flights immediately," he requested the prime minister. "A South African returnee tested positive for COVID-19 in Chandigarh," the AAP leader said, citing a media source. His domestic assistance and one of his family members have tested positive for the disease. To determine a coronavirus variation, samples from positive cases will be forwarded to the NCDC in Delhi for whole-genome sequencing."

With the discovery of Omicron in South Africa, scientists and health professionals in India have warned that further waves of infection are expected, and that unless swift and effective action is taken, the country may see repeat waves. The World Health Organization has also classified this variant as a variant of concern (WHO).

On Sunday, Kejriwal wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging that international flights be halted from areas where Covid-19 instances are on the rise.
