Workers looking for shortcuts damage the Great Wall of China

One of the most recognizable and impressive architectural feats in human history, the Great Wall of China spans the enormous region of northern China like the spine of a dragon, weaving across craggy mountains, arid deserts, and open plains. This enormous fortification was constructed over many dynasties and centuries and acts as a deterrent to invaders as well as a representation of China's long history and enduring culture. Last month, two employees harmed that emblem by sawing through it with an excavator.
The aftermath of the incident was depicted in images on Chinese official television, where a dusty road had been cut through a length of raised ground that appeared to be the remains of the old barrier.

The police agency in Shanxi province's Youyu County posted the images. According to the police, the damaged portion of the Great Wall is a part of the 32nd Great Wall, which was built during the Ming Dynasty (1368–1644).
Since 1987, the Great Wall has been recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage monument.
