11 Dead In Massive Fire In Timber Godown In Telangana’s Secunderabad

In the early hours of Wednesday, a major fire broke out at a lumber godown in Secunderabad, Telangana, killing at least eleven persons.

When the fire broke out, police reported twelve migrant workers from Bihar were trapped in the godown, which was located in a congested area of Secunderabad’s Bhoiguda. While one worker managed to escape the fire by jumping from the first floor of the two-storey structure, eleven others succumbed.

A short circuit in the godown is thought to have started the fire. Officials stated the incident is being investigated and that the fire has been extinguished. Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao expressed his sorrow over the disaster and promised a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for each of the workers killed in the fire. He also told the Chief Secretary to begin plans for their bodies to be repatriated.
