Anil Vij, the health minister for Haryana, announced on Thursday that samples of four cough syrups produced by a Sonipat-based company had been sent to the Central Drugs Laboratory in Kolkata for testing. The WHO had the previous day suggested that these cough syrups may have contributed to the deaths of 66 children in The Gambia.
The World Health Organization (WHO) issued a warning on Wednesday, claiming that four cough syrups purportedly made by Maiden Pharmaceuticals Limited, a company situated in Sonepat, Haryana, may be to blame for child fatalities in the country of West Africa.
The Drugs Controller General of India, India’s drug enforcement agency, has already opened an investigation.
Vij told PTI over the phone on Thursday, “The samples have been gathered by a team from the DCGA and Haryana’s Food and Drugs Administration Department and sent to the CDL, Kolkata for evaluation.
He said that a senior representative of the Center’s Department of Pharmaceuticals spoke with the Additional Chief Secretary of Haryana (Health).
Vij claimed that the pharmaceutical company’s cough syrups had received export authorization. It is not offered for purchase or marketing within the nation. “After receiving the CDL report, anything has to be done will be done. We cannot draw any conclusions prior to the report’s release “said Vij.
Manohar Lal Khattar, the chief minister of Haryana, responded that the Centre was looking into the situation when he was questioned about it during a news conference here.
He claimed that when a global issue is involved, the Indian government takes care of it and is still taking care of it.
He continued, “At this point, we do not know if the deaths were genuinely caused by these medications or were due to some other factors.
