Wedding party bus crashes into a gorge in Uttarakhand, killing 25 people


In Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand, a bus transporting a wedding party of more than 40 people plunged down a canyon last night, killing 25 people. Following an overnight effort at the accident site near Simdi village, the state disaster response force and police successfully evacuated 21 passengers.
In the Pauri Garwhal bus disaster that happened last night in the Dhumakot neighbourhood of Birokhal, 25 persons were found dead. According to state police chief Ashok Kumar, “Police and SDRF rescued 21 persons overnight; the injured have been admitted to local hospitals.

Images from the nocturnal operation, which show rescue crews escorting the injured passengers to safety, were tweeted by the state police chief.

The state administration is standing with the relatives of those who died in the tragedy, said Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.

The wedding group had departed from Laldhang in the district, according to Haridwar police chief Swantantra Kumar Singh, and they later learned that the bus suffered an accident.
