The governor of Meghalaya, Satya Pal Malik, called the recently unveiled Agnipath programme by the federal government a “wrong plan” and emphasised that it “is absolutely against the Army’s honour, and the government must quickly examine it.”
Malik continued, “If this plan is executed, our Army’s honour would only erode.” Malik was in Baghpat on Sunday for a condolence meet. Later this year, the former J&K governor, who is ready to retire, made the following quip: “No longer will soldiers find brides. If a soldier only has a four-year job, who will marry him? The administration should keep up its previous strategy for hiring military personnel.”
Malik explained his post-retirement goals as follows: “When I retire, I’ll write a book about Kashmir. Additionally, I’ll stand out for farmers’ rights as needed. Once my term as governor is done, I have no intention of entering politics.”
“The Agnipath programme is against aspiring jawans and a swindle of their expectations.” Malik, who is from Baghpat, travelled to Khekra village to express his condolences to the people who were close to his buddy Gaje Singh Dhama and who had passed away.
