You’ve probably heard of a smart phone or a smart watch, but now you’ll be able to see a smart shoe. Ankurit Karmakar, a ninth-grader from Assam’s Karimganj district, has developed a smart shoe that can assist visually impaired people in avoiding obstacles. These shoes can also assist blind people in detecting obstacles from up to four metres away.
Ankurit explained: “If a barrier is encountered, the shoe’s sensor will detect it and the buzzer will sound an alert. When the buzzer sounds, the visually impaired person can hear it and become attentive, allowing him to avoid the obstacle.”
When the buzzer sounds, the visually impaired person will hear it and will be attentive and ready to react in order to escape the impediment. The sensor is connected to the battery through a barrel connector and is powered by a small battery strapped to the sole of the shoe.
The bright young boy expresses his desire to work as a scientist. He indicated that he will continue to work on projects that will benefit people and help them live more comfortably.
Additionally, thanks to sensors and Google Maps access, this Smart Cane assists blind people in living a normal life. He stated that as he grows older, he hopes to become a scientist and develop more technological devices to make humanity’s existence easier.
