The Assamese mountaineer Hedayet Ali, who hails from Hajo in Assam, added another feather to his cap on Thursday morning by climbing Mount Everest. Among Assamese mountaineers, he is the seventh to successfully scale Mount Everest.
On Thursday, Ali, who walked from Lukla to Everest Base Camp, reached the summit about 7.30 a.m. The mountaineer is a California-based software engineer. He graduated from Golapara Sainik School with a matriculation certificate. This is the season’s first expedition to Mount Everest. Hedayet Ali was part of an international team of 11 mountaineers who ascended the peak.
In addition, he ascended Mount Elbrus, Europe’s highest peak, Mount Acconogua in 2019 and Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak, in 2018. The Guwahati Explorers Club congratulated Ali on a successful excursion.
Tarun Saikia, a Guwahati resident, was the first Assamese to climb Mount Everest. As part of the 1st North East India Mount Everest Expedition, he reached the summit of the world’s highest peak on May 18, 2013.
