On Sunday night, a man armed with a sharp-edged weapon attempted to forcibly enter the tightly guarded premises of the Gorakhnath temple in Gorakhpur district, injuring two police constables stationed there, according to top police officials.
The temple is part of Gorakhnath Math, whose head priest is Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh.
According Indian news agency ANI, the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) is in Mumbai to probe the Gorakhnath temple attack case. According to the anti-terrorist agency, the arrested suspect Ahmed Murtaza Abbasi has not seen his family in three years.
According to ANI, ATS personnel paid a visit to Abbasi’s family’s home in Navi Mumbai. His father said that his son had a mental illness. “He is not in good mental health. He has been depressed since he was a child. He was also given medical attention “The accused’s father, Munir Ahmed Abbasi, said ANI. He said, “He had no plan and did this owing to his current mental state.”
Ahmed Murtaza Abbasi, according to the Uttar Pradesh Police, tried to force his way into the Gorakhnath Temple grounds on Sunday night. When confronted, he used a sharp weapon to attack the on-duty officers.
