A grid breakdown that resulted in widespread blackouts on Tuesday afternoon left at least 130 million people in Bangladesh without power, according to the government’s power utility firm.
According to the Power Development Board, the abrupt outage occurred shortly after 2 p.m. local time (0800 GMT) and affected more than 80% of the nation.
According to agency spokeswoman Shamim Ahsan, “the rest of the country is without power” with the exception of a few sites in Bangladesh’s northwest.
According to Ahsan, at least 130 million people were without energy, and the root of the problem was yet unknown. He added that the matter was still being looked into and that a technical issue was probably to blame.
Zunaid Palak, a junior minister of information technology, posted on Facebook that power would be restored to Dhaka, the nation’s capital and home to more than 22 million people, by 8 o’clock.
