Bangladesh’s largest bridge, the Padma, will open to traffic on June 25. According to the Xinhua news agency, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader made the announcement after meeting Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Dhaka.
“Our Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the bridge in a magnificent ceremony on June 25 morning,” he said. The massive infrastructure project is the largest and most difficult in Bangladesh’s history, with the main bridge stretching 6.15 kilometers.
About 40 kilometers southwest of Dhaka is the Padma multipurpose bridge. The Padma River bridge, which connects Bangladesh’s northeastern and southern regions, is also a significant component of a planned trans-Asian railway network.
