The presidential and vice-presidential election was held on Monday, 9th of May as part of the general election, in the Philippines. This was the 17th direct presidential election and 16th vice-presidential election in the Philipines since 1935 and the sixth sextennial presidential and vice-presidential election since 1992.
Marco’s supported celebrating early in victory as a senator has so far won 55.8.% of the vote, compared to 28% for rival Leni Robredo.
Bongbong Marco’s father, former president Ferdinand Marcos, has a history of ruling the country under his brutal authoritarian rule. Mr. Marcos Sr, along with his wife Imelda and their cronies, plundered an estimated $10bn from public funds before he was removed by a popular revolt in 1986. Supporters whitewashed his family’s time in power, which was marked by heavy corruption, as a golden age.
Politics is not news for Marcos as he served in various elected positions over the years. He lost the 2016 vice-presidential election to Ms. Robredo.
After Six years, seems it is now Marcos’ turn to win in some of the areas where he got fewer votes in 2016.
