According to an official announcement issued on Friday, the Centre has released Rs 124 crore for Assam from its Flood Control Fund for the current fiscal year.
On Friday, Minister for Water Resources Pijush Hazarika met with Union Minister of Jal Shakti Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in Delhi and thanked him for his help, according to the statement.
Hazarika also asked Shekhawat to provide more funding under the scheme in the coming days to help with projects that will rid Assam of the flood threat.
The funds were provided this year by the Jal Shakti Ministry as a result of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s “unwavering efforts,” according to the water resources minister.
As part of its attempts to control water levels in rivers during the monsoon season, the state administration plans to embark on a comprehensive initiative to build ponds near rivers, according to the announcement.
