A Chinese woman filed a lawsuit against a coworker for allegedly giving her a too-tight hug, which she claims broke three of her ribs. IOL reports that although the woman filed a lawsuit this year, the man gave her the “rib-crushing hug” last year.
According to the outlet, the plaintiff is a Hunan provincial resident who filed the lawsuit in a Yunxi court. She demanded compensation for the costs associated with her medical care and the time away from work she had to take because of excruciating rib pain.
The man was required by the judge to pay his coworker 10,000 Yuan (1.16 lakhs) in damages.
According to IOL’s report, the woman was speaking with a coworker in the office when the man walked up to her and gave her an extremely tight hug, causing her to scream in pain. She immediately experienced chest pain, which persisted even after work. But rather than going to the doctor, she turned to some home remedies.
Days later, after still experiencing discomfort, the woman decided to go to the hospital for a checkup, according to an IOL report. She was shocked to learn that she had three broken ribs, two on the right side and one on the left, after having an X-ray.
The woman then took a leave of absence from work, costing her salary. Her financial burden increased as a result of the medical costs, the outlet added.
The man, on the other hand, refuted the woman’s claims, claiming that there is no proof that her injury was caused by his friendly hug.
According to the court, there is no proof that the woman engaged in any activities during those five days that could have resulted in the broken bones.
