Shortly after photos and videos showing “poor arrangements” for athletes competing in the Meghalaya Games 2022 went popular on social media, chief minister Conrad Sangma instructed the appropriate officials to take immediate action.
Athletes and support staff competing in the Meghalaya Games 2022 resorted to social media to express their dissatisfaction with the venues’ ‘pathetic’ conditions.
Pictures and videos shared by athletes and support staff competing in the Meghalaya Games 2022 quickly went viral on social media, painting a bleak picture of the arrangements.
“I saw images of the accommodations made for our athletes’ accommodation in Shillong. This is in no way acceptable. Conrad Sangma, the chief minister of Meghalaya, said, “I have instructed the officials to promptly take action and rectify.”
Conrad Sangma, the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, has also expressed his displeasure with the “poor arrangements” made for the athletes competing in the Meghalaya Games 2022.
He also paid a visit to the Meghalaya Games 2022 venues in Shillong to assess the “poor arrangements” firsthand.
“I personally examined the venue to take stock of the situation after obtaining images of bad state of accommodation for our athletes in Shillong for the Meghalaya Games.” “It’s very distressing to see the arrangements,” Conrad Sangma observed.
However, the Meghalaya Games 2022 organizing body has denied the allegations, claiming that the athletes were using “dejected toilets” that are undergoing refurbishment instead of the “clean” bio toilets.
“Prior to the games, the organising committee opted not to utilize these substandard toilets which have not been used for a long time and are likely to be demolished under the current repair,” read a statement from John F Kharshiing, co-chairman of the Meghalaya Games 2022 organising committee.
The 4th edition of the Meghalaya Games-2022 began yesterday in Shillong at various sporting facilities. The huge sporting event, held as part of the 50th Statehood Day Celebrations, attracts nearly 2,500 athletes from 19 different disciplines. On the 7th of this month, the games will come to a close. The official opening ceremony for the Meghalaya Games will take place at First Ground, Polo, Shillong.
