According to the government’s amended instructions for international arrivals issued on Thursday, passengers arriving in India will no longer be required to be tested for Covid-19 at the airport before stepping out, and the list of “at-risk” countries will be removed. The requirement of a seven-day house quarantine after arriving in India has also been removed. Passengers entering the country will now be required to self-monitor their health for 14 days following their arrival.
On February 14, the amended guidelines will take effect.
“The line between ‘at-risk’ countries and other countries has been eliminated. As a result, there is no need to collect samples at the port of entry and wait for the results from ‘at-risk’ countries,” tweeted Union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya.
He also confirmed the change from the previous need of a seven-day home quarantine to a 14-day self-monitoring period upon arrival.
Incoming travellers have been encouraged to self-isolate and report to their local health institution if they acquire symptoms suggestive of Covid-19 after arrival in India, or call the national hotline number 1075 or the applicable state helpline number.
