Being in shape is a trend that most young people would go to great lengths to accomplish. Many people starve themselves and embark on diets without considering the effects. Another option is surgery, although it might have catastrophic repercussions that few people are aware of. In a terrible tale of body shaming and the obsessive pursuit of near-impossible ideals of beauty, a young Kannada actress who went to a private hospital in Bengaluru for a fat removal procedure died a day before. According to her family, Chethana Raj, a 21-year-old TV star, died as a result of the hospital’s incompetence.
Chethana Raj reportedly went with her friends to Dr Shetty’s Cosmetic Clinic in Rajajinagar for a cosmetic surgery, without telling her parents. Her friend reportedly signed the consent form before she was taken into surgery. Soon after the procedure, her lungs reportedly filled up with fluid. She died of a cardiac arrest within hours.
On the basis of her parents’ police complaint, a case has been filed against doctors. The hospital has been decommissioned. “This is a case of medical negligence. A report on her death is pending, and a charge has been filed against Dr. Shetty’s Cosmetic Centre in connection with her death. We have filed a complaint, but no arrests have yet been made because action would be taken when the medical report is received “Deputy Commissioner of Police, North Division, Bengaluru, Vinayak Patil stated.
Her parents claim the hospital broke the law by failing to obtain their consent before to surgery and doing the procedure in an ICU with inadequate facilities. The Subramanyanagar police lodged a case under section 174 C of the Cr.PC on Tuesday, based on a complaint filed by Mr. Varadaraju, and are awaiting the post-mortem result.
Chethana, who had appeared in a number of serials and a Kannada film, had decided to undergo fat reduction surgery. Despite her parents’ objections, she went ahead and spent 1.6 lakh to be admitted to the hospital, according to the family.
