NW and central India experience hottest April in 122 years

The maximum temperatures across northwest and central India were the highest for the month of April in the last 122 years as a result of the ongoing heatwaves, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated on Saturday. With 35.05 degrees Celsius, the all-India temperatures (maximum and mean) recorded until April 28, 2022 are the fourth highest in the last 122 years.

Previously, March 2022 was the hottest month in the country and northwest India in 122 years. In April 2022, the average maximum temperature in northwest and central India was 35.90 degrees Celsius and 37.78 degrees Celsius, respectively. Temperatures will remain above normal throughout May, according to the Department.

“Most portions of west-central and northwest India, as well as northern parts of northeast India, are predicted to have above-normal maximum temperatures in May.” “Over the remaining portions of the country, normal to below normal maximum temperatures are predicted,” IMD Director General (Meteorology) Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said at a press briefing.
