Sonali Phogat Death: Goa Restaurant Owner Connected To BJP Leader's Death Charged In Drug Case.
Telangana Police were in Goa after Edwin Nunes was ordered earlier this week by a court in Mapusa to turn himself in in Anjuna for fabricating a COVID-19 certificate.
Edwin Nunes, the proprietor of Curlies restaurant, was detained by Telangana Police from Anjuna in Goa in a drug case yesterday, hours after being released on bail in a another case. Following the September death of BJP leader Sonali Phogat, Nunes was one of five people detained. Later, he was released on bond.
The CBI is looking into the Phogat death case. After it was discovered that Ms. Phogat had partied at the establishment just hours before she passed away, Curlies restaurant made headlines. Following a narcotics bust in Telangana three months ago, the police in Hyderabad are searching for Nunes and scores of other drug dealers. According to sources, Lalaguda police from Telangana are camped out in Goa as a result of Nunes' order from the Additional Sessions Court in Mapusa.
He was promptly hauled into custody and sent to Hyderabad after being released on bail yesterday.
"After adhering to the court-imposed bail restrictions, he was released from police custody. Hyderabadi cops were waiting for him at the police station already. He was detained due to Telangana-registered cases against him "In Panaji, a top officer remarked. Additionally, according to sources, Nunes' relatives have been in Hyderabad ever since he applied for anticipatory bail before numerous courts.
Although he made multiple attempts to avoid capture, the Telangana High Court last week ordered him to turn himself up to police on November 7 in Lalaguda.
Senior Counsel arguing on behalf of Nunes claimed there wasn't a particular grievance against his client.
However, the Assistant Public Prosecutor asserted that Nunes was a drug trafficker operating out of Goa who was engaged in numerous instances.
