A former deputy mayor of Vadodara, BJP leader Sunita Shukla, expressed opposition to Kshama Bindu’s announcement that she will marry herself on June 11 at the Harihareshwar temple in Vadodara, in an act of ‘sologamy’ inspired by Canadian web series ‘Anne with an E’.

This comes after a former Union minister and Maharashtra Congress leader called the story of a lady wishing to marry herself “wokeness on the verge of craziness.” “Let’s hope it stays far, far away from India,” Milind Deora tweeted, drawing criticism from Twitter users.
Bindu explained that self-marriage is a promise to herself since she believes that every woman wants to be a bride but not a wife. Her sologamy will also be devoid of any legal ramifications. “I think women marrying themselves may appear to be really dangerous because it appears that we are saying males are irrelevant, but we are actually just saying that we matter,” Bindu explained.
“Self-marriage is a commitment to being there for yourself,” Bindu continued, “to choosing the livelihood and lifestyle that will help you grow and blossom into the most alive, beautiful, and deeply joyful person you can be.”
Bindu, who is from Vadodara in Gujarat, said she was particularly taken with one of the web series’ dialogues: “Every woman wants to be a bride but not a wife.” She went on to say that marrying herself was a way for her to acknowledge her adulthood.
Bindu stated that she would not go through the legal system in order to be single. “…if you married yourself, you wouldn’t get any tax savings.” She quoted Rebecca Traister, author of “All the Single Ladies: Unmarried Women and the Rise of an Independent Nation,” as saying, “It is more of a repudiation of tradition.”
