A court in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, ordered the closure of a pond in the Gyanvapi Mosque complex after allegations of a “Shivling” being discovered there. The district magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma was directed by the Varanasi court to “close the area and bar the entry of any individual to the area.” The DM, police commissioner, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) commandant Varanasi would be responsible for the security of the sealed area, according to the court’s ruling.
An advocate filed a plea in the court of civil judge senior division Ravi Kumar Diwakar, requesting that the place where some physical evidence was discovered be preserved.
Gyanvapi Mosque is managed by the Anjuman Intezamia Masjid Committee, which is led by SM Yasin “We strictly obeyed the court’s ruling and gave our entire cooperation during the survey. I am profoundly distressed that petitioners’ associates are making assertions that benefit them and exposing details of the survey’s proceedings.”
A court-appointed panel’s videography audit of Varanasi’s Gyanvapi mosque concluded on the third day on Monday amid elaborate security preparations.
