A case has been filed against a woman in Chatuhshrungi for allegedly killing a four-month-old cat. Shilpa Nilkanth Shirke, a Gokhalenagar inhabitant, is the subject of a FIR. Prashant Dattatray Gathe, her next-door neighbor, has filed a complaint.
The incident happened around 8.15 a.m. on April 2, according to the police. When the kitten entered the woman’s home, she was struck in the head by a blunt instrument. She informed cops that the kitty frequented her home and made ‘noise.’ Police have charged her with violating Indian Penal Code (IPC) Section 429 and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act Sections 11 I (a) and (l). The case is being investigated by Chief Constable More.
Killing an animal is no less of a crime than killing a human. Because animals lack the ability to speak and raise their voices in the face of injustice, it does not follow that aggression against these helpless creatures would be tolerated.
