Hours after his team had petitioned the Islamabad High Court in search of a pre-arrest bail, the former Pakistani prime minister Imran Khan on Monday obtained a temporary reprieve in the form of a transit bail for three days till August 25, according to local media sources.
Imran Khan was charged with violating the Anti-Terrorism Act after he threatened the police, judiciary, and other state institutions during a rally on Saturday in Islamabad. The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority, the nation’s media watchdog, has also prohibited TV networks from airing his live talks.
According to Dawn, the FIR against Imran Khan was filed at the Margalla police station in Islamabad at 10 p.m. on Saturday in response to the magistrate’s complaint. A respected female additional sessions judge and top police personnel were “terrified and threatened” by Khan’s speech, according to the FIR.
On Sunday, Imran Khan’s attorneys Babar Awan and Faisal Chaudhry submitted a petition asking for pre-arrest bail.
According to the Dawn report, which referenced the petition, they claimed that the former Pakistani prime minister was a “target of the ruling PDM (Pakistan Democratic Movement) for his fearless criticism, and exceptionally forthright and blunt stance against corruption and corrupt politicians.”
