In Meghalaya, A Woman Was Tied To A Pole And Mocked In Public.
Officials reported on Friday that a disturbing scene occurred in the Jaintia Hills area of Meghalaya when a woman was tied to a pole at a market place in Jowai in Meghalaya and heckled for alleged pickpocketing, leading police to take action. On Friday, an undated video of the event became popular on social media.
It showed the woman being led to a shed by unknown people during the day, interrogated, and then tied to a pole while bystanders jeered. At the scene, children, young people, and ladies were observed making fun of her.
According to a top police official, An officer and a team from the local women’s police station have been dispatched to investigate the situation. All of the people seen in the video will be interrogated. Perpetrators would be dealt with according to the law, he said.
While tying woman to a pole and making fun of her was not the proper way to handle the matter, the people should not have taken the law into their own hands. It is the responsibility of the law to punish her, but not in such an unusual way.
Meanwhile, a Twitter user chastised the residents for acting inhumanely. “For a small infraction she reportedly committed somewhere in Jaintia Hills, a woman was bound and publicly shamed. For a progressive Meghalaya, this is inhumane “the user writes tagging the CM of Meghalaya and Meghalaya Police.
