Indore, in Madhya Pradesh, has been named the cleanest city in India in a government survey for the sixth year in a row. Surat in Gujarat has been ranked as the second cleanest city in the Swachh Survekshan 2022 Awards. Indore and Surat retained their top positions in the big cities category this year, while Vijaywada lost its third spot to Navi Mumbai.
Tripura has achieved the highest ranking among the States with fewer than 100 urban local bodies, according the study findings.
At a ceremony in New Delhi on Saturday, President Droupadi Murmu presented the awards to the winners. Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs for the Union Hardeep Singh Puri was also present.
Panchgani in Maharashtra was placed first among cities with a population of under one lakh, followed by Patan in Chhattisgarh and Karhad in Maharashtra.
In the category of towns with more than 1 lakh inhabitants, Haridwar was determined to be the cleanest Ganga town, followed by Varanasi and Rishikesh.
With fewer than one lakh inhabitants, Bijnor was ranked top among the Ganga towns. The following are respectively Kannauj and Garhmukhteshwar. The cleanest cantonment board in the nation was determined to be Deolali in Maharashtra.
The seventh edition of Swachh Survekshan was carried out to assess the success of the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) and evaluate the performance of the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) according to various standards of sanitation and cleanliness. The Survekshan now evaluates 4,354 cities as opposed to 73 in 2016, when it only covered 73.
