As citizens awoke to air raid sirens for the fourth morning in a row following Russia’s enormous, deadly attack across the country on Monday, rescue personnel rushed to the scene as Iranian-made kamikaze drones struck Ukraine’s capital region early on Thursday morning. Oleksiy Kuleba, the governor of the Kyiv region, claimed that the strike had taken place in the vicinity of the nation’s capital. If there had been any casualties wasn’t yet known.
Kyrylo Tymoshenko, the deputy head of the presidential office, said on Telegram that “important infrastructure facilities” in the region had been attacked without specifying which ones. As fighting raged on Ukraine’s southern front overnight, a five-storey apartment building in the southern city of Mykolaiv was completely demolished.
Oleksandr Sienkovych, the mayor of Mykolaiv, claimed that the top two floors of the structure were entirely destroyed in a single stroke, leaving the rest of the structure in ruins. It was unclear right away whether there had been any casualties. As Kiev’s forces pursue a counteroffensive intended to retake territory captured by Russia, early morning strikes on Ukraine’s southern front have become frequent.
