Jaxon Smith-Njigba has had an impressive few months, marked by significant achievements in the NFL. From being named the Associated Press Offensive Player of the Year to securing the largest contract for a wide receiver in history, Smith-Njigba is making waves. Recently, he signed a monumental deal with the Seattle Seahawks that solidifies his status as one of the league’s top talents.

Historic Contract for Smith-Njigba

Jaxon Smith-Njigba and the Seattle Seahawks have reached a landmark agreement on a four-year contract worth $168.6 million. This deal includes an unprecedented $120 million in guaranteed money, averaging $42.15 million per season—both of which set new records for wide receivers in the NFL.

After the Seahawks parted ways with star receiver DK Metcalf, Smith-Njigba has emerged as a future standout. He led the league with 1,793 receiving yards on 119 catches, showcasing his strong connection with quarterback Sam Darnold. At only 24 years old, he is poised for many more productive seasons ahead.

Contract Details and Career Achievements

The Seahawks have Smith-Njigba under contract until the 2031 season, having also exercised his fifth-year option worth $23.9 million. Although this new contract does not officially kick in until the 2028 season, next year he will earn a modest base salary of $1.25 million, alongside a hefty $35 million signing bonus and potential workout incentives worth another $250,000.

With this extension, Smith-Njigba surpassed Ja’Marr Chase in average annual value, leaving Chase’s $40.25 million contract with the Cincinnati Bengals in the dust. This year, Smith-Njigba earned All-Pro honors, notching career highs with 10 touchdown receptions and making significant contributions during the Seahawks’ playoff run, with 17 catches for 199 yards and two touchdowns in three games.

To date, Smith-Njigba has recorded 282 receptions, 3,551 receiving yards, and 20 touchdowns over his career. His performances have earned him Pro Bowl selections for both 2024 and 2025, with the potential for many more if he continues at this pace.

Despite some injury concerns during the Super Bowl, where he was briefly evaluated for a concussion, Smith-Njigba has maintained exceptional health throughout his career, not missing a single game in three seasons—making him an invaluable asset for the Seahawks.
