Gujarat’s Independent MLA Jignesh Mevane, who received immense support from Congress Party has been charged with assault molestation by the Woman police. The case was filed at the Barbeta road police station on April 21.
He has been booked under IPC sections 192( obscene act and songs in a public place), 355( assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 353( assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), and 323( voluntarily causing hurt).
Mevani was out on bail in a recent case for tweeting over PM Modi from Gujarat Banaskantha district yet another rearrested in a fresh case filed in Barpeta district under various charges.
Case registered based on a complaint of file at Barpeta Road Police Station by woman police from Kakrajhar on April 21 the morning he was arrested on the previous case. He has been accused of verbally abusing pushed her against the car seat and touch inappropriately.
The lawyer of the Dalit leader Angshuman Bora said, “We are absolutely surprised and there was not a whisper about the assault on officials when he was under police custody for 3 days. Suddenly after he was granted bail, he was shown as arrested”.
The MLA was on bail in one case on Monday yet he was arrested again immediately in the second case filed by the women police. Police took him into custody and would be produced before the Barpeta Chief Judicial magistrate on Tuesday.
