Terrorists shot and killed a female teacher in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Tuesday, prompting Kashmiri Pandits hired under the PM package to threaten mass migration from the valley unless they were shifted to secure regions within the next 24 hours.
Rajni Bala (36), a non-Muslim government employee assigned to a government school in Gopalpora, Kulgam, was the second non-Muslim government employee killed in May and the seventh targeted death in Kashmir this month.
Meanwhile, Kashmiri Pandits working under the prime minister’s package have vowed to flee the valley in large numbers if the government does not relocate them to secure areas within the next 24 hours, as community members took to the streets in protest over the teacher’s death.
Officials reported that several Kashmiri Pandit personnel protested the killing at the Ghanta Ghar (Clock tower) in Lal Chowk, while another group gathered at Batwara in the Sonawar part of the city and yelled slogans against the Union Territory government.
Kashmiri Pandit laborers in Qazigund, south Kashmir, reportedly blocked one of the tubes of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
