A tornado swirled through a small northern Michigan community on Friday, following which at least one person killed and injured over 40 others due to twirling and swirling the vehicles and uprooted the trees, and ripping off the roof of the houses by the powerful tornado barreled through.
The incident occurred earlier this Friday afternoon, at around 3:40 p.m it travels approximately 15 minutes damaging harm in its entirety way. One large building reportedly collapsed while several cars were tossed upside down and damaged, and a mobile trailer park was also heavily destroyed.
The tornado struck Gaylord, a community of around 4,200 people about 230 miles (370 kilometers) northwest of Detroit.
Gretchen Whitmer who is the Michigan Governor, announced a state of emergency, providing aids to be used in the recovery effort.
“My heart goes out to the families and small businesses impacted by the tornado and severe weather in Gaylord,” Whitmer said, on Friday evening.
“I have declared a state of emergency for Otsego County to rush resources to the affected areas, and the State Emergency Operations Center has been activated to coordinate our state’s response,” she added.
She tweeted over the incident and motivated the residents of Michigan to fight through the damages caused by the tornado.
“Michiganders are tough. We are resilient. We will do what it takes to rebuild. There’s no challenge we can’t get through together,” Whitmer tweeted later in the evening.
Since the chaos in the small town has been encountered, more than 25,000 people across northern Lower Michigan were without power by early Friday evening.
Numerous homes were damaged and trees were uprooted causing power lines down and blocking roads, State Police said on Twitter. Images shared on social media showed multiple RVs shredded to pieces in a parking lot.
