North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) announced on Sunday that the Common University Entrance Test will be used for all undergraduate admissions at its affiliated campuses (CUET).
Dr. David Pyngrope, an NEHU spokesperson, said the NEHU, which is the state’s only central university, is bound by the University Grants Commission’s rules and regulations (UGC).
According to him, the UGC had informed the Vice-Chancellors of all central universities that the National Testing Agency would be conducting the CUET.
The NEHU further recommended students seeking admission to UG courses in its affiliated colleges to register as soon as possible through the CUET portal, as the deadline for registration is May 6. Debashish Chowdhury, a CUET nodal officer, has been nominated by the university.
Interested students should contact the CUET nodal offices of the colleges connected with NEHU for more information on the registration procedure and preparation for the CUET, 2022, according to Dr. Pyngrope.
He noted that the university decided to move through with CUET in 2022 following serious deliberations with the state education department in two separate sessions conducted at the office of Education Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui, and NEHU campus.
According to Pyngrope, the test will give candidates across the country a common platform and equal chances.
However, many student organizations and non-governmental organizations in the state are opposed to holding the CUET exam right away, claiming that most students are confused by the sudden nature of the exam and that it will adversely affected students from rural areas who have limited access to modern technology.
