Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik went to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss the farmers’ plight recently, he claims he got into a five-minute dispute with the PM, who he describes as “extremely arrogant.”
Mr. Malik has been slamming the administration and the BJP leadership, particularly on the farmers’ issue, and has repeatedly stated that he is not afraid of being asked to resign. Before being sent to Meghalaya, he served as governor of Jammu & Kashmir and Goa. He also stated, as he did last year, that no one’s father has made him Governor.
Mr. Malik, while addressing a social function at Dadri in Haryana on Sunday, said, “He was very arrogant. When I told him that 500 of our own farmers had died, he asked, ‘Did they die for me?'”
“I told him yes, since you are the king. Anyway, I ended up having a fight with him. He told me to meet Amit Shah and so I did,” the Governor added.
Mr. Malik said on Sunday that the centre must strive honestly to remove lawsuits against farmers filed during the agriculture legislation protest and provide a legal foundation for MSP for crops.
“However, the government’s assumption that the agitation has ended is incorrect. It’s only been put on hold. If there is any injustice or abuses among farmers, the uproar will erupt once more “On the sidelines of an event at Charkhi Dadri, Haryana, where he was honoured by the Phogat Khap, he added.
Farmers should make use of the opportunity now that the farm rules have been overturned, Mr.Malik added, to get choices made in their favour, such as a legal foundation for MSP.
