In the interest of the students’ community in rural parts of India in general, and Meghalaya in particular, the Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) petitioned the University Grant Commission (UGC) to reconsider its judgment on CUET on Friday.
Sadon K Blah, president of HNYF, penned a letter addressed to UGC Chairman, M Jagadesh Kumar, which appeals to the UGC, which is an institution that guides the nation in education, to reconsider its decision and analyze the pros and cons of a Single Window Agency in all matters of education.
Blah stated that the UGC’s experimental venture is comparable to playing with the future of students interested in enrolling in UG courses at various colleges across the country, including in Meghalaya. “UGC is turning students into guinea pigs.” “This is open and obvious robbery in the shape of fees ranging from Rs 400 to Rs 800 to be collected from crores of children who have passed their Class XII examinations,” Blah remarked.
“Does the UGC’s decision suggest that such students will be denied access to higher education if they did not pass the CUET?” Many of these students only desire a degree credential without any professional courses that would allow them to sit for various competitive tests, he added.
He stated that the CUET will be conducted in a computer-based test (CBT) format, noting that a big portion of Meghalaya is rural, and the IT sector is still developing.
