Meghalaya: Police on high alert over ‘jihadi movement’ along Bangladesh border

Since the crackdown on jihadi activity in Assam, all district police stations and police outposts along the international border with Bangladesh have been placed on high alert.


The Meghalaya state police are keeping a close eye, according to LR Bishnoi, Director General of Police (DGP) for Meghalaya. We have informed all the districts, police stations, and outposts, especially those places having a border with Bangladesh, after obtaining information about the jihadi in Assam.

“We are closely monitoring the activity of these elements, “said the DGP. Meghalaya and Bangladesh share almost 434 kilometres of land.

In response to information regarding jihadis, he remarked outside a programme, “We are on alert, especially in areas of importance along the Bangladesh border, over their potential movement.

To commemorate 75 years of Indian Independence, Bishnoi led a BSF motorcycle procession from Shillong to Delhi. On September 16, the rally will have travelled through Meghalaya, Assam, West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, UP, and Delhi.
