TV viewership declines if MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli perform poorly: Toby Swann

According to former England cricketer Graeme Swann, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli have a significant impact on television ratings. While Kohli continues to be a key member of the Indian side in all three forms, Dhoni withdrew from international cricket back in 2019 and now only plays for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Kohli, meanwhile, has experienced his fair share of ups and downs over the past three years or so. By scoring his first T20I century against Afghanistan last month at the Asia Cup 2022 Super Four stage, he recently rediscover himself.
Swann, 43, believed that if Dhoni and Kohli don’t perform well, TV viewership will plummet significantly.
India must succeed with Virat Kohli. Since I used to work in television, I am aware of how important it is for Virat Kohli to succeed, much as it was for MS Dhoni. If those folks don’t succeed, TV ratings drop and viewers lose interest. Swann was cited by News18 as stating, “I want Virat Kohli to do well. When I used to play against India, I never minded Virat Kohli’s batting. Swann, who participated in 60 Tests, 79 ODIs, and 39 T20Is, also said he likes to watch Kohli, 33, bat.
