Prior to the “Mahapanchayat” called by the Samyukt Kisan Morcha at Jantar Mantar today, security has been stepped up at Delhi’s borders, particularly Singhu and Ghazipur. Farmers from outside Delhi have begun to arrive at the Tikri border, where the police have erected concrete obstacles. The national capital has been placed under Section 144, and Jantar Mantar has been subject to extensive security measures.
Due to farmers’ mahapanchayat, the Delhi Police advised traffic to stay off Tolstoy Marg, Sansad Marg, Janpath Road, Ashoka Road, Outer Circle Connaught Place, Baba Kharak Singh Marg, and Pandit Pant Marg.
Farmers are calling for the arrest of Union Minister of State for Housing Ajay Mishra Teni, whose son Ashish is a key defendant in the Lakhimpur Kheri case. They have also urged that the Swaminathan Committee draught a law to guarantee MSP in accordance with the C2+50% formula, among a number of other demands.
