The Taliban will be deciding on a new flag for Afghanistan along with a new national anthem as they give final touches to government formation after taking control of the country.
“The next government will decide on the flag and the national anthem of Afghanistan,” announced Zabihullah. He also added that the Taliban administration will also pay salaries to the government staff.
Zabihullah Mujahid said on Monday that the Taliban have taken complete control of Panjshir province, the last area in Afghanistan being held by resistance forces, the Islamist terrorist group’s spokesman.
Meanwhile, amid reports of Taliban co-founder Mullah Baradar being touted as the leader of the Taliban government in Afghanistan, Zabihullah said that Mullah Hibaullah Akhundzada is alive and will come into public view soon.
The Taliban have also killed two persons associated with the Afghanistan resistance front. According to the Afghan media, Fahim Dashti (spokesman of the Resistance Front) and Abdul Wudod Zara (member of the Afghan resistance front) have been killed during a standoff with the Taliban in Panjshir province of Afghanistan.
Fahim Dashti, who was killed on Sunday, was a senior member of the Jamiat-e-Islami party and a member of the Federation of Afghan Journalists, as reported by the Khaama Press; while General Wudod was the nephew of Panjshir resistance leader Ahmad Massoud.
Zabihullah Mujahid said in Panjshir, several of resistance force members were beaten while the rest fled. He claimed that the “oppressed and honorable people” of Panjshir were released from hostages.
However, a close aide of former vice president Amrullah Saleh, who is holding out in Panjshir, told India Today, “The Taliban claims are false. Resistance forces are up on the mountains and defending themselves. The Taliban are aided by Pakistani choppers for operations against us.”
The resistance forces also vowed to continue the fight against the Taliban and claimed that they were at an “advantage”, Ahmed Massoud’s spokesperson told TRT World.
Earlier it was reported that Hibaullah Akhundzada would become the supreme leader of the Taliban administration.
