New Zealand: Bodies of two children found in suitcases bought at auction

The suspected murder of two children, whose remains were discovered in suitcases purchased at an online auction for an unclaimed locker last week, is being looked into by New Zealand police. A family in Auckland discovered the remains last week while sorting through the contents of a storage locker they had unknowingly purchased. As a result, police opened a homicide investigation.

Police stated in a statement on Thursday that the two kids, who ranged in age from 5 to 10, had been dead for some time. Without going into further detail, they added that the suitcases had been in storage for some time. The kids haven’t been officially identified, but according to detective inspector Tofilau Faamanuia Vaaelua of the police department, they thought they had relatives in New Zealand.

He continued that it was possible that their families were unaware that the kids were dead. The children’s cause of death or whether there were any suspects were not disclosed by the police.
