North Korea tests missiles in Sea of Japan, US fires four missiles

According to Seoul on Wednesday, the US and South Korean forces launched a barrage of missiles into the ocean in retaliation for North Korea’s launch of a ballistic missile over Japan. For the first time in five years, nuclear-armed North Korea launched an intermediate-range ballistic missile over Japan on Tuesday, leading Tokyo to issue evacuation orders for certain people.

In retaliation, South Korea and the US conducted their own practice, according to Seoul’s military, and launched ground-to-ground missiles into the East Sea, also known as the Sea of Japan.

In order to “precisely strike a virtual target,” both military launched two ATACMS short-range ballistic missiles into the ocean, according to the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The exercises “demonstrated the ability and preparedness to negate the origin of the provocation while maintaining a persistent monitoring posture,” the statement stated.

A South Korean missile’s failure shortly after launch and subsequent crash without any casualties were also confirmed by the military. US and South Korean fighter jets practiced bombing a target in the Yellow Sea on Tuesday.
