Pakistan: Heavy Rain Wrecked Havoc, Killed At least 310 People, Injured Over 295…
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) reported that since June 14, about 310 people have died and 295 more have been injured in separate rain-related incidents throughout Pakistan.
In a situation report issued on Sunday, the NDMA noted that 175 women and children had died as well as almost 8,979 residences, 48 bridges, and a number of businesses around the nation that had been partially or completely destroyed by the rains.
According to the NDMA, the southern Sindh province, which has reported 70 fatalities and 27 injuries, and the southwestern Balochistan province, which has reported 100 fatalities and 57 injuries, accounted for the majority of the country’s damages and casualties. According to the NDMA, 14 people died in other regions of the nation, while 62 people died in the north-west Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and about 64 people died in the east Punjab province.
Rescue and relief efforts are currently under way, the NDMA noted. The organisation has been distributing food packs, tents, kitchen sets, mosquito nets, hygiene kits, blankets, and tarpaulins to people affected by rain and flooding around the nation.
In some of Pakistan’s major cities, the torrential downpour over the past 48 hours has led to urban flooding.
While one local activist provided far higher estimates of the destruction, another spoke of the difficulties associated with being cut off from the electrical grid and drinking water. With a maximum rainfall of more than 238 mm, it is believed to have smashed the record of the previous 20 years, according to Dawn.
Power outages were caused throughout the majority of the country by several power feeds being tripped by heavy rain and severe winds.
