Due to the state’s LPG transporters’ decision to begin an indefinite strike on Monday, Assamese residents are likely to experience a shortage of LPG cylinders in the coming days. Supply shortages in the neighbouring northeastern states are also likely caused by the scheduled walkout.
The Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), according to the Northeast Packed LPG Transporter Association (NEPLTA), has allegedly ignored its long-standing demands despite numerous meetings with IOCL representatives.
In response to a directive from the Union Petroleum Ministry, Kumud Nath, the top advisor of NELPTA, told IANS that IOCL had cancelled the earlier tender for transporting LPG cylinders. The transporters’ body opposed to it, and as a result, IOCL and NELPTA met to discuss how to resolve the situation.
The transporters’ association also claimed that since 2014, IOCL has not altered the transportation rates, causing the transporters to suffer a loss of revenue.
Seven LPG bottling facilities will be shut down in support of the strike: the North Guwahati Bottling Facility, the Tinsukia Gopanari Bottling Facility, the Sarpara Bottling Facility, the Bongaigaon Bottling Facility, the Dimapur Bottling Facility, the Silchar Bottling Facility, and the Duliajan Bottling Facility.
