Assam Police Station Burnt Down By Mob In Batadrawa: Two Officers Seriously Injured

Several people, including women, set fire to the Batadrawa Police Station in Nagaon district of Assam today. The fire caused extensive damage to the station’s property, while at least two policemen were seriously injured.

The police station was attacked by a group of locals who were enraged by the death of a youth who had been arrested by police this morning.

A considerable number of firearms, motorcycles, and official documents were all burned to ashes in the police station, where the raging fire was finally put out after many hours of firefighters’ efforts. The mob also inflicted considerable damage to the new police station building on the same campus, while the old police station was burned down. Leena Doley, the Nagaon district superintendent of police, and other top police officials raced to Batadrawa to calm things down.

According to the SP, an investigation into the incident has begun, and police have gathered some video footage from the scene. Two of the injured cops were taken to the hospital after being manhandled by the mob.
