President Emmanuel Macron on Monday, named Labour Minister Elisabeth Borne as his new Prime Minister, the first woman to head the French government in over three decades, the Elysee said in a statement. Macron, 44, enrolled a substantial victory in April 24 presidential polls against far-right leader Marine Le Pen, winning by 59 to 41 percent.
Macron assigned Borne, 61, to be the next Prime Minister of France, over the 30 years the “I’Hexagon (“The Hexagon”) has not been any women to be elected for Prime Minister. So, she is the first woman to be a French Republican in three decades.
Borne place herself on the position as French Prime Minister Jean Castex who initially handed his resignation to the president, part of a widely expected reshuffle to make way for a new government in the trail of Macron’s re-election in April. The withdrawal of Mr. Castex, who was a surprise choice for the role in 2020, enables Mr. Macron to reshape the cabinet ahead of significant parliamentary polls in June.
